Justice Secretary reveals 2,237 complaints against 'crooked lawyers' were received by Scottish Legal Complaints Commission in first year

KENNY MACASKILL, Scotland’s Justice Secretary has revealed the Scottish Legal Complaints Commission, the ‘independent’ body created by the Legal Profession & Legal Aid (Scotland) Act 2007 to regulate service complaints against Scottish lawyers, has received WELL OVER TWO THOUSAND complaints from clients against ‘crooked lawyers’, members of the same legal profession the Justice Secretary so famously claimed in the Scottish Parliament while making a statement on the Legal Services Bill, that his SNP controlled Government, “owed a great debt” for their ‘electoral success’ ….

Referred to the Faculty of Advocates for investigation under Transitional Powers : 18

Total : 2,237

Complaints Dealt With By The SLCC Under The Old Scottish Legal Services Ombudsman’s Powers :

Complaints received : 138

Complaints investigated or in process of being investigated : 155 (this differs from the number above as it includes complaints received pre 1.10.08)
